For anti-wrinkle & filler treatments:

 

Before treatment:

- avoid aspirin, vitamin E, st. John's wort and other dietary supplements including ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew and ginseng for 2 weeks if possible.

- avoid ibuprofen and alcohol for 2 days.

- if possible, come to your appointment with a cleanly washed face.



General injection related complications:

Pain, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, headache, infection, numbness, anxiety.



Most will resolve in a few hours or a few days at most.



After treatment:

- do not massage the treated areas on the day of treatment.

- avoid lying down for 4 hours immediately after treatment.

- avoid applying heat to the treated area on the day of treatment.

- avoid activities that facial flushing on the day of treatment, including consuming alcohol, hot tub or sauna use, exercising and tanning.

- gently apply a cool compress or wrapped ice pack to the treated areas for 15 minutes every few hours as needed to reduce discomfort, swelling, or bruising up to a few days after treatment. If bruising occurs, it typically resolves within 7-10 days.

- after treatment, oral consumption and/or topical application of Arnica Montana may help to reduce bruising and swelling.

- Botulinum toxin treatment effects take about 1-2 weeks to fully develop and last approximately 2.5-4 months.

- If 1-2 weeks after treatment you feel that you require a botulinum toxin touch-up, please contact the office.

- If 2-4 weeks after treatment you feel that you require another dermal filler syringe, please contact the office.

 

For skin peel treatments:

 

 

Before treatment:

- Discontinue use of any products containing high strength alpha hydroxy acids (such as glycolic and lactic acids) and prescription retinoids (such as Retin-A and Renova) 1-2 weeks prior to treatment.

- Do not use a sunbed, sauna or steam bath for at least 72 hours before peel.

- Apply a sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater everyday for the duration of treatments.

- Treatment areas must be free of any open sores, lesions or skin infections.

- Consult with your general practitioner before starting treatment if any skin lesions in the treatment areas have changed, itched or bled.

 

After treatment:

- Treat areas may feel sensitive, tight or dry and may appear pink, red and slightly swollen for 3-5 days.

- If any redness persists do not go back to using glycolic acid until it is resolved.

- Do not use a sunbed, sauna or steam bath for at least 72 hours after peel.

- Do not sunbathe for at least 72 hours after peel.

- Always use SPF 15 (or SPF 30 if direct sunlight)

- Avoid electrolysis, waxing, bleaching for 48 hours.

- Do not swim in chlorinated water for 12-24 hours after treatment.

- Do not perform excessive exercise immediately after treatment.

- Mineral makeup may be applied after the treatment if desired.  It is preferable to apply makeup the day following treatment.

 

For dermaroller treatments:

 

Before treatment:

- Do not use a sunbed, sauna or steam bath for at least 72 hours before dermaroller.

 

After treatment:

- Use intensive moisturiser/sunscreen with minimum SPF 30 for first week.

- Skin may feel drier or tighter - this is quite normal.

- Do not use a sunbed, sauna or steam bath for one month.

- Always use recommended sun protection of SPF 30 minimum.

- Avoid electrolysis, waxing, bleaching (face) for 36 hours.

- Do not swim in chlorinated water for 14 days.

- No excessive exercise immediately after.

- If undergoing laser or IPL treatment seek advice from operator/technician.

- It is preferable to apply makeup the following day.

For Hair removal, Pigmented & Vascular lesion treatments:

 

Before treatment:

- Avoid tanning bed, direct sun exposure and sunless tanning products for 4 weeks prior to each treatment and the duration of treatments

- Use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide daily for the duration of treatments

- Do not use medications that cause photosensitivity (such as doxycycline and minocycline) for at least 72 hours prior to each treatment

- If you have a history of herpes ( oral cold sores, genital) or shingles in the treatment area, start your antiviral medication (aciclovir tablets 200mg) as directed for 3 days prior to treatment and continue for 3 days after treatment

- Discontinue use of glycolic and Retin-A - containing products 1 week before treatments

- Shave the area to be treated 1 day prior to your visit. If the hair in the treatment areais very sparse, do not shave - the provider will shave that area at the time of your treatment

- Do not pluck, wax, undergo stringing or electrolysis, use depilatory creams or bleach for 4 weeks prior to treatments

- At the time of treatment, the area must be free of any open sores, lesions or skin infections (eg active acne)

 

After treatment:

- Some redness and swelling along with a mild to moderate sunburn sensation in the treatment area are common. This typically resolves within a few hours but may last up to 3 days

- Apply a wrapped cool compress or wrapped ice pack to the treated areas for 15 minutes every 1-2 hours as needed to reduce these symptoms. You may also apply hydrocortisone 1% over-the-counter cream two times per day on intact skin upto 3 days to decrease skin irritation

- Gently wash twice daily with mild soap, do not rub the skin vigorously and avoid hot water, as the skin will be fragile for several days

- Avoid activities that can cause flushing for 24 hours after treatment or until any swelling resolves

- Avoid any topical products that may cause irritation for 1 week following treatment

- If blistering, crusting, or scabbing develops, call our office immediately. Do not pick or attempt to remove scabs that form following your treatment, as this may incur infection or scarring

- Any extruding singed hairs is normal and may occur for several weeks

- Immediately after treatment, pigmented lesions will appear darkened, the lesions will continue to darken and flake off over 1-2 weeks

- Immediately after treatment, vascular lesions may disappear, lighten or change colour turning grey or bluish-purple, the lesion will typically lighten over the next week

For Tattoo removal treatments:

 

Before treatment:

- Avoid tanning bed, direct sun exposure and sunless tanning products for 4 weeks prior to each treatment and the duration of treatments

- Use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide daily for the duration of treatments

- Do not use medications that cause photosensitivity (such as doxycycline and minocycline) for at least 72 hours prior to each treatment

- If you have a history of herpes ( oral cold sores, genital) or shingles in the treatment area, start your antiviral medication (aciclovir tablets 200mg) as directed for 3 days prior to treatment and continue for 3 days after treatment

 

After treatment:

- Immediately after treatment, apply a wrapped cool compress or wrapped ice pack to the treatment area for 15 minutes every 1-2 hours or as directed. The area may feelwarm, appear swollen, reddish or bruised. Blistering or scabbing can occur particularly if ice is not appliedas directed and will generally heal in 1-2 weeks.

- Discomfort typically resolves within 1 day and can be relieved with icing

- If the skin is irritated (without scabs or bleeding), apply sunscreen SPF 30 or greater daily. A bandage of gauze and paper tape may be applied over the area if desired, but this is not needed

- If the tattoo is in an area prone to abrasion, for example, where pants or bra strap contact skin, keep tattoo dressed (as above) until fully healed, and the skin is no longer shiny

- Avoid activities that can cause flushing for 24 hours after treatment or until any swelling resolves

- Avoid products that can cause irritation for 1 week following treatment

- If blistering, crusting, or scabbing develops, contact our office immediately. Place a bandage over the area (as described above) and replace every day until all scabs are fully healed to prevent infection. Do not pick any crusted or scabbed areas as it may interfere with healing and cause scarring

- Keep the area clean with gentle cleansing. Do not rub the area with a washcloth or towel, pat dry instead

- Avoid direct contact with hot water (eg hot tubs, saunas) for 1 week following treatment

- If swimming or participating in water activities, cover tattoo with gauze and place a waterproof bandage on top of the gauze with at least 1 inch of adhesive around the gauze

For Nonablative Laser resurfacing treatments:

 

Before treatment:

- Avoid tanning bed, direct sun exposure and sunless tanning products for 4 weeks prior to each treatment and the duration of treatments

- Use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide daily for the duration of treatments

- Do not use medications that cause photosensitivity (such as doxycycline and minocycline) for at least 72 hours prior to each treatment

- If you have a history of herpes ( oral cold sores, genital) or shingles in the treatment area, start your antiviral medication (aciclovir tablets 200mg) as directed for 3 days prior to treatment and continue for 3 days after treatment
